Title: How Lean Construction is Different - Eliminating Waste and Challenging the Traditions of Building Information Modeling
Please join Ed Thompson from Cherry City Electric and Amy Clements from JE Dunn Construction for a presentation and discussion of how Lean Construction techniques challenge the norms of traditional construction to increase efficiencies. An overview of Lean Construction and a case study focusing on the use of BIM will be discussed.
Ed Thompson has worked for Cherry City Electric for 27 years as a Wireman, General Foreman, and current role as Preconstruction Manager/Lean Specialist. Through his experience on six local Lean IPD projects, he has developed a passion for Lean Construction and changing the culture on all projects that he is involved with. Ed runs five different Lean bootcamps for his company and plans to continue expanding his offerings. Ed has presented at the Lean Construction Institute Congress in 2018 and the CMAA National Conference in 2019.
Amy Clements has been working in the Portland A/E/C community for 17 years, most recently as a Lean Specialist for JE Dunn Construction, coaching and training project teams on the use of the Last Planner System. Amy is also the Lean Construction Institute’s Cascadia-Portland Community of Practice Leader. Amy appreciates the collaborative nature of the Portland construction community and enjoys sharing her knowledge of Lean practices – helping project teams define expectations, understand the value and definition of success for the project, and where/how to find efficiencies in the work.
